Title: Chuck Barry
Oil on wood slice. Approx 11”x 15”.
The first song I tried to learn and failed was “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Barry. The song was too complicated for a beginner (me). But there are parts I managed to learn that were the most valuable things I have ever learned, and I use them all the time to this day. I listened to Chuck Barry in a rural fishing town in Japan. I dreamed of rock & roll and a neon marquee sign in the USA. He was a symbol of the US to me. If I didn't listen to Chuck Barry back in the 70s, I would not be playing rock music for sure.
